New Homestead? Being Prepared.

Read my latest blog on Mother Earth News about finding a new homestead and being prepared for when we can no longer handle the demands of mountain living.  Right now we can handle the physical demands of living remotely but what about next year or the year after that? There will come a time when cutting 10-11 cords of firewood a year and shoveling snow for hours at a time will be too much.  We can't turn back time and so it is best to consider these future possibilities long before we will be required to make a change.  You can read the blog at: http://www.motherearthnews.com/the-happy-homesteader/finding-a-locale-for-a-new-homestead-being-prepared.aspx

The above photo was taken this morning after shoveling those areas yesterday for three hours that the snow thrower won't reach.  It is important to keep up with the snow at high elevation so it doesn't overwhelm us when we get those really deep storms.  Suggestions welcome.

Really beautiful looking cabin. You two with the help of your four legged friends have done really well.
